As we continue to persevere and reinvent ourselves through this pandemic, we are thrilled to offer our Virtual Fall Program taught by Desmond Richardson, Dwight Rhoden, current and former company members, and renowned guest faculty. Similar to our in-person Intensive, our Virtual Fall Program will focus on the Total Body approach to training that fuses Classical and Contemporary dance methods that we call ’NIQUE.  With no more than 40 students per Session each participant gets direct personal feedback from teachers. Each day will start with ’NIQUE or Contemporary Ballet Class that emphasizes coordination, physical ignition, precision, efficiency, and clarity of form. Class will be followed by Repertory or Movement Creation with Dwight Rhoden, Desmond Richardson, and current or former company members. Each week will end with an internal showing for your classmates with individual feedback from the core faculty. At the end of each Session we will open the showing to family and friends.

We are excited to connect and evolve together while ensuring the safety of the dancers across the US and the World!

SESSION 1 & SESSION 2 (Mon-Fri) students will participate in a placement class on the first day of classes to determine level placement. The core faculty which includes Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson will determine the level placement for each individual student which will either be Pre-Advanced or Advanced.

Pre-Advanced level is for students with an intermediate understanding of classical ballet technique with at least 4 years of training. This level will focus on the core fundamentals of the official technique of Complexions - 'NIQUE. Pre-Advanced level is for students who are new to 'NIQUE. This level focuses on strength, stability, and overall placement; broadening their understanding of the relationship between the upper and lower body. Teachers will work closely with students to understand counter-balance and how to initiate the transfer of weight originating from the spine. This allows students to understand how to transition from one step to another allowing for a fuller range of movement.

Advanced level is for students with an advanced or pre-professional understanding of classical ballet technique with 6+ years of training. This level includes the fundamentals of pre-advanced and is fast paced and focused on coordination, efficiency, and clarity of form. Advanced level students will focus on versatility and range of dynamics - with a keen awareness of the fullness in physicality necessary to convey impactful dancing.

WEEKEND SESSION (Sat&Sun) is an all level program for pre-advanced and advanced students.

Contemporary Pointe Add-On

As an optional extra add-on, students will have an opportunity to take two Contemporary Pointe focused classes weekly, where students will explore the use of the Pointe shoe in a Contemporary context, and work on articulation and efficiency in the Contemporary Ballet style that has been the lynchpin in the Complexions repertory.
